We have all heard this statement at some time in our lives. Every leader, including you, can be effective if you are true to yourself. What do great leaders do differently? The answer is “EVERYTHING.” Leaders play to their talents, are very different from each other, and are true to themselves.
The problem is that we compare ourselves to others, wishing that we had their talents. We can spend a good deal of our lives fixing ourselves or another’s inadequacies, while our real gifts and abilities lie dormant. In actuality, our best choice is to live by what our parents taught us when we were little; you don’t have to be like anyone else – just be the best YOU in the world.

Why focus on your talents? When we focus on talents, we are 6 times more likely to be engaged in our work. When people are more engaged at work, they have achieved productivity and satisfaction, both individually and in teams. And they are more than three times as likely to say they have an excellent quality of life. When people are more satisfied with their work, it positively impacts their relationships at work, at home and within the community. The greatest impact finding out your talents will have will be in the relationships you foster with this new-found knowledge.
